Desktop Searches

TalentHook is integrated with the most popular desktop search applications to allow you to quickly and easily retrieve candidates from files already stored on your local computer. If you are already using one of the supported desktop search applications, all you need to do is select the appropriate resource listed under the Desktop Search category. If you do not have a supported desktop search application installed and wish to retrieve candidates from your local computer, then you will need to install one of the supported applications listed below. Any of the supported desktop search applications can be downloaded and installed for free. Once installed and running, the desktop search application can take several hours to create an index of your files. Once the initial indexing process has completed, you will be able to retrieve candidates from your local computer within seconds.

Supported Resume File Formats

TalentHook can retrieve candidate information from the following types of files:

• Plain Text (txt)
• Rich Text Format (rtf)
• Microsoft Word (doc)
• Adobe Acrobat (pdf) 
• Web Page (htm, html)

While the desktop search application will index hundreds of file types, the file types listed above are the only ones that TalentHook is currently able to read from your local computer. Please let us know if you would like for us to add support for file types other than these.

Supported Desktop Search Applications

TalentHook is integrated with the following desktop search applications. It is recommended that you only install one desktop search application, as each application requires a significant amount of hard disk space to store the indexed results.

Windows Search (recommended)

Windows Search is a free application provided by Microsoft and is the recommended solution for enabling TalentHook to search your local files and emails. This application will currently run on Windows XP (SP1 or higher), Windows 2003, or Windows 2000 SP4. 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows are supported. You will need 500 MB of free hard disk space, 120 MB RAM, and a 500 MHz or faster processor. You must have Microsoft Word 2000 or higher installed for TalentHook to work with Windows Search.

NOTE: Windows Vista already has an integrated version of Desktop Search, so Vista users will not need to download or install Windows Search.

Add-Ins

While TalentHook has the ability to retrieve resumes stored in pdf format, Windows Desktop Search does not index these files by default. If you want the ability to retrieve candidate info from pdf files, you will need to install the free Adobe PDF Add-in, found on the Windows Search Add-ins webpage.

 

Google Desktop

Google Desktop is a free application provided by Google. Due to certain limitations (such as the inability to use OR logic) in Google Desktop, Windows Search is the recommended desktop search provider for TalentHook. Google Desktop will currently run on Windows Vista, XP, or Windows 2000 (SP3 or higher). You will need 1 GB of free hard disk space, 128 MB RAM, and a 400 MHz or faster processor. You must have Microsoft Word 2000 or higher installed for TalentHook to work with Google Desktop.
