Creating a Query
The query, or search, feature is the backbone of TalentHook. It allows you to quickly and easily retrieve candidates from the Internet that match the requirements of an open job position. Queries can be linked to a job (linked search) or freestanding (quick search).
To create a new query, click Search on the main tool bar. You will be presented with the "New Query" wizard.
New Query Wizard
This wizard guides you step by step through creating queries.
Step 1: Query Information tab
This tab allows you to select the type of query you want to perform. There are two types of query, the Quick Search and the Linked Search. Select either type of search and click Next.
- Quick Search
- A Quick Search is a freestanding search that is not linked to a job, manager or company. Your search results are stored under Quick Search in the main organizational tree.
- Linked Search
- A linked search is a search that is linked to a specific job. Linked search results are stored under their related job for future access.
Step 2: Search type tab
The Search Type tab allows you to focus your search by selecting from different search categories. Select from one of the following search categories and click Next:
- Open Web Search
- Newsgroup Search

- Keywords
- The keyword, or words you enter will confine your search to retrieve only the resumes containing those keywords. To enter a phrase (two or more words, such as "Visual Basic"), use quotes. To enter several keywords, separate the words with a space. For Example: paramedic RN "medical technician." For more information on keywords, see our Search Tips.
- Maximum candidates per site
- This drop-down menu allows you to select the number of hits per site. The fewer hits you select, the quicker your overall search will run however if you select '10' hits per site, and a particular site has more than ten matches, you will only receive the first ten it collects. Tip: You can search more efficiently by lowering your maximum number of candidates per site and retrieving fewer, well-targeted candidates. Learn more from our Search Tips.
- Filter criteria
- When searching pay board sites, additional filtering is available. Filter criteria allow you to restrict your search results only to candidates that meet certain specific criteria. This functionality is only enabled when the search resources that you have selected support it.
